Built to solve a real travel problem

Stranded Electrons is a small Australian business founded and run by Yuxiang Liu.

The business began in 2024 while I was preparing to travel through the Australian outback. The Starlink Mini had just been released, but I could not find a mount that suited the way I needed to use it on a moving vehicle. Rather than settle for a poor fit, I started designing my own solution.

From idea to 3D-printed mount

This photo shows the 3D-printed version of the current design mounted on my vehicle during testing. Its embedded image metadata dates it to 7 October 2024.

I designed and tested the mount around the needs of vehicle travel. What began as a solution for my own trips quickly found an audience among other travellers looking for a practical, low-profile mounting option.

The 3D-printed version sold well and confirmed that this was a problem worth solving properly.

2025

Moving to injection moulding

At the beginning of 2025, I committed to developing an injection-moulded version. This allowed the mount to be produced with greater consistency, a cleaner finish, and materials selected for long-term outdoor use in Australian conditions.

The injection-moulded mount has been available ever since and continues to evolve through real-world use and customer feedback.

Designed from experience

Stranded Electrons remains a small, hands-on business. I oversee the product design and manufacturing decisions with the same goal that started the business: make Starlink Mini mounting simpler and more dependable for people travelling by caravan, RV, 4WD, ute, truck, or boat.
